The Lure of the Snow Mountain

Meili Snow Mountain 梅里雪山 is located in Deqin County. This beautiful mountain range is comprised of 4 four large glaciers: Ming Yong 明永,Si Nong 斯农,Niu Ba 纽巴, and Nong Song 浓松. The average altitude is at 6000m with Ming Yong being the highest at 6750m, the highest in Yunnan Province. While it’s not as high as Mt. Everest’s 8000m, it had certainly proved to be a more difficult climb. There had been 9 failed attempts with a major casualty in 1991 of 17 Sino-Japan climbers. 3 more attempts were made after to search and rescue but with no success....

Chinese Shangri la

The journey from Shangri la to Deqin was suggested in the Lonely Planet China as the “road less traveled” (compared to Dali & Lijiang), but of course this made the route popular to foreign travelers. :) The name Shangri la is a fictional Himalayan paradise described in a Novel by James Hilton called Lost Horizon. Several places from India to Tibet claimed to be the inspiration of this novel. In 2001, China renamed Zhongdian 中甸县 to Shangri la 香格里拉县 to attract tourists. It takes 11 hours via sleeper bus from Kunming to get there. It costs RMB176($25) and surprisingly comfortable....

Bali bumming

BALI is the last installment of my trip to Indonesia. Philippine Fashion Week Holiday 2010

Philippine Fashion Week has become an annual event for my sisters and I. Like last year we attended the show presented by Bench. But unlike last year, we were late, thus, we got thrown into the dark corner. But then again, bunch of people were not able to get in at all.
