Welcome to Wanderlass Travel Blog

Wanderlass blog began in 2007 as a mean to update my family and friends during my first solo trip to Europe. As our memory struggles against forgetting, this blog serves as a backup memory of my travels around the world. Please enjoy!

Civet Coffee from the Philippines

It was an easy yes for me when I was invited to join the coffee junket organize by Alamid Cafe Xpress, even if this trip involves hiking a mountain, and that it was on a Thursday. As coffee lover, I would not pass the rare chance to see the source of the most...

wanderlass turns 4!

A couple of weeks ago, fellow wanderlust friend  Benj announced that his blog visitsagada.com turned 3. This got me to muse about my own blog turning 3 in February. But then I did the math and realized it's actually turning 4. Today! Looking Back The beginning of...

Cebu City Tour

I've been to Cebu a few times before for the beach, visit friends, attend a wedding, Sinulog, and of course to scuba dive. But last year, my sisters all voted to go to Cebu for our family New Year holiday as none of them have been there before. I'm fine with it...

Manila Ocean Park

The summer I turned 10, my dad took me on my first airplane ride to Hong Kong, and part of our trip was a visit to the Ocean Park. It was the ultimate theme park in South East Asia at that time. I vaguely remember the whole thing except for riding the cable car and...

of missed flights and lesson learned

You'd think that with all these frequent flying, one would get this traveling business down to a T.  Of course one would always be ready for changes along the road, specially during longish trips. I've missed flights before, twice actually in my life. But to commit...

The lass who wanders.

I travel the world on a quest to live a life not ordinary.

Come, wander with me!

This is my story

In the world that I wander in, one lives a fulfilling life when one follows a set path: excel as a student, secure a high-paying job, find a well to do, stable and kind partner, marry, have a million babies, and live happily ever after. For we were programmed (brainwashed?) with this narrative since childhood, it was naturally the "ever-after" I blindly sought.

However, life, with its enigmatic agenda, had other plans. Luckily, I woke up from this slumber somewhere along this journey. While my hands were never tied, my mind was shackled with unending sense of guilt and sea of inhibitions. I now understand it was my parents' way of being protective. But the moment the spell was broken, I began to see with a pair of new goggles, and I gasped for breath.

I unearthed the vastness of the world and the infinite possibilities life offers! I became different from the people around me. I’ve ignited latent passions and developed new verve for living. While part of me wishes that this revelation had come sooner, I am who I am because of who I was. I've always been a fast learner so I will catch up! This is my quest to live a life not ordinary!

It is not death that a man should fear. But he should fear never beginning to live.

– Marcus Aurelius
