Welcome to Wanderlass Travel Blog
Wanderlass blog began in 2007 as a mean to update my family and friends during my first solo trip to Europe. As our memory struggles against forgetting, this blog serves as a backup memory of my travels around the world. Please enjoy!
Bungee Jumping is one thing that I’ll never do. This is what I’ve been saying for the past 10 years. But like learn again and again, never say never.
The Festial de la Luz originated in 1986 when the city of San José organized the first parade of floats and the best marching bands in the country. I was told that the show gets better every year.
After a week in San Jose and not seeing much outside the bread shop and super mercato, I decided to do a day trip out of town. Sitting on atop the Pacific hot spot, Costa Rica is home to about 100 active volcanos. One of them is the Volcán Poás just 40km outside of...
After jetting around in Europe, where I spent an average of 1 week per city, I decided to take it even slower in Central and South America. After all, the visa is easier here. I mean I get 90 days for Schengen which is for 24 countries, while I get at least 30 days...
New York is so diverse that for many, it’s more of an international city than an American city. The New Yorkers especially think so. It goes without saying that authentic cuisine of every nation in the world are found in NY. Let’s say you can travel around the world with Food in New York. That was my agenda and here is a list of restaurant that I tried and were suggested by foodie friends based in NYC.
Originally New York was not part of my plan, but as a jump off point for my Latin American travel, it was the cheapest option. And for long term travelers with a certain budget, it usually is the greatest deciding factor. But after 3 weeks here in the US, I decided I...
The lass who wanders.
I travel the world on a quest to live a life not ordinary.
In the world that I wander in, one lives a fulfilling life when one follows a set path: excel as a student, secure a high-paying job, find a well to do, stable and kind partner, marry, have a million babies, and live happily ever after. For we were programmed (brainwashed?) with this narrative since childhood, it was naturally the "ever-after" I blindly sought.
However, life, with its enigmatic agenda, had other plans. Luckily, I woke up from this slumber somewhere along this journey. While my hands were never tied, my mind was shackled with unending sense of guilt and sea of inhibitions. I now understand it was my parents' way of being protective. But the moment the spell was broken, I began to see with a pair of new goggles, and I gasped for breath.
I unearthed the vastness of the world and the infinite possibilities life offers! I became different from the people around me. I’ve ignited latent passions and developed new verve for living. While part of me wishes that this revelation had come sooner, I am who I am because of who I was. I've always been a fast learner so I will catch up! This is my quest to live a life not ordinary!
It is not death that a man should fear. But he should fear never beginning to live.
